Job Description

SteelSmith roll-off drivers run commercial and residential routes, collect construction debris and recyclable materials, and transport the material to the appropriate facilities. Drivers are responsible for safely and courteously serving our valued customers. Steering wheel holders need not apply. If you are looking for a great place to work utilizing your roll-off experience, we would like to speak with you. This is a full-time position and overtime is available. Drivers are expected to work when needed.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess a State of Florida issued Class B CDL
  • Must submit to and pass initial and possible random drug screening
  • Must have 2 years verifiable roll-off truck experience
  • Must have no chargeable D.O.T. reportable accidents within the past three years
  • Driving/Safety record must meet SteelSmith minimum requirements
  • No DUI/DWI, drug or alcohol related convictions within past 5 years
  • No careless or reckless driving convictions within past 5 years
  • The applicant must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in
    English, and have the ability to understand the policies and regulations of
    SteelSmith, the Department of Transportation, Coast Guard and the various state and federal agencies which regulate the transportation industry
  • Applicant must submit a completed application form addressing each area of the form.
  • The applicant must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position they are applying for, with or without accommodation (walking, bending, climbing, crouching, driving, sitting, twisting, able to lift a minimum of 75 lb., reaching, pulling, pushing, gripping/grasping controls, able to effectively communicate with dispatcher/supervisor)
  • Able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must conduct themselves professionally
  • Must adhere to the company code of ethics at all times, even on personal time
  • Applicant must have a current, or able to obtain a DOT Physical card
  • Applicant must hold a current TWIC card or be able to obtain one
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post trip inspections
  • Clean loose trash/debris off of truck after every load, prior to starting to drive
  • Courteously interact with customers and/or the general public
  • Notify supervisor of any issues requiring management action
  • Maintain Daily Driver Log which is to be submitted at the end of each shift
  • Have general knowledge of the truck and its components
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors to back distances up to approximately 120 feet
  • Able to use GPS navigation and locate service addresses
  • Able to follow safe operating practices while loading and unloading containers
  • Monitor operations to detect loose debris, using mirrors or direct sight and/or listening for falling debris from the truck
